Product Flyer: SmartJCL – The Easy Way to Faultless JCL

SmartJCL is a powerful JCL checking solution for z/OS environments that identifies typical errors before they impact production. It analyzes JCL and relevant components, supports schedulers such as IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) and Control-M, and provides additional capabilities for checking complex job streams, remote systems and site-specific standards.

  • Identify JCL errors early: SmartJCL detects typical issues such as syntax errors, missing files, programs and procedures, as well as errors caused by incorrect scheduler variables before they affect production processes.

  • Reliably check complex job streams: Catalog actions can be simulated in advance and jobs checked in their production sequence, helping teams identify potential conflicts and data-related errors before execution.

  • Flexible integration into existing environments: Interfaces to IWS for z/OS, Control-M and REXX, together with Remote Check and automatic JCL reformatting, support integration into existing mainframe processes.

SmartJCL helps data centers ensure high-quality JCL and identify errors before applications are handed over to production. In addition to the JCL itself, the solution analyzes relevant components such as procedures, symbolic parameters, utility statements, DASD and UNIT availability, datasets and scheduler variables. This enables teams to systematically identify common sources of errors and reduce production aborts.

Integrated interfaces to IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) for z/OS and Control-M support the simulation and correct substitution of scheduler variables. SmartJCL can also check complex job streams in their planned production sequence and simulate catalog actions in advance, helping identify errors and conflicting disposition parameters before production runs.

Additional capabilities such as Remote Check, JCL Reformat and the REXX interface provide further flexibility. JCL can be checked against libraries on another system, automatically reformatted according to company-specific requirements, and accessed through REXX for customized verification and modific

Where Enterprise Automation Is Heading: Insights from the 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for SOAP

The move from traditional workload automation to intelligent, end-to-end orchestration is accelerating. This change is one of the clearest signals we've seen from the 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Service Orchestration and Automation Platforms (SOAP), and it comes at an important moment for Beta Systems. For the second year in a row, Beta Systems has been positioned as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for SOAP. But beyond vendor positioning, the 2026 report provides an important view into where enterprise automation is heading. The evolution is not simply from job scheduling to more sophisticated workload automation. SOAPs are increasingly becoming the operational layer connecting applications, infrastructure, data pipelines, cloud services, and now AI agents. Here are our key takeaways from the 2026 research.
