Amazon SNS

ANOW! Observe integrates with Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) to provide a fully managed publish/subscribe messaging service for operational alerts. This one-way outbound integration publishes operational alerts from Alertmanager to an SNS topic, enabling fan-out routing to multiple downstream systems with a message size up to 256 KB.

About the Integration

The ANOW! Observe integration with Amazon SNS establishes a robust, one-way outbound channel for operational alerts. Alertmanager, the Prometheus alerting component integrated in ANOW! Observe, publishes firing and resolved alerts to a specified SNS topic. This configuration facilitates fan-out routing, allowing a single alert from ANOW! Observe to simultaneously reach multiple subscribers such as Amazon SQS queues, AWS Lambda functions, HTTPS endpoints, email addresses, or SMS numbers. This architecture is ideal for organizations with AWS-heavy operations that centralize alert distribution via SNS.

Alerts are triggered based on Alertmanager's routing criteria, which can be configured to deduplicate, group, and prioritize notifications before publishing. This ensures signal-rich messages for downstream systems, preventing alert storms. Authentication utilizes AWS Signature Version 4 (SigV4) signing, supporting IAM roles for secure credential management or explicit access-key credentials. Communication with the SNS API is conducted over HTTPS, ensuring data integrity.

This integration is designed for IT operations teams and cloud engineers who manage complex, hybrid IT landscapes and rely on AWS for their cloud infrastructure. It enables them to unify their alert management, extending ANOW! Observe's observability into their existing AWS-centric incident response workflows, thereby streamlining operational response and ensuring critical alerts reach the right systems and teams promptly.

Integration Benefits

Centralized Alert Distribution

Distribute ANOW! Observe operational alerts to multiple AWS services like SQS, Lambda, and email lists via a single SNS topic. This centralizes your alert management, ensuring critical notifications reach all relevant downstream systems efficiently.

Streamlined Incident Response

Automate the triggering of incident response workflows in AWS upon receiving ANOW! Observe alerts. SNS fan-out enables parallel processing by various subscribers, accelerating the Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) for operational issues.

Enhanced Compliance & Auditability

Maintain an auditable record of all SNS notifications within ANOW! Observe's audit trail, linked to corresponding workflow runs. AWS CloudTrail further logs SNS Publish API calls, providing comprehensive auditability for regulatory compliance.

Flexible Alert Routing

Utilize Alertmanager's routing tree to granularly distribute alerts based on severity, environment, or service. Different routing branches can target distinct SNS topics, enabling precise fan-out to environment-specific or team-specific downstream systems.

DevOps Workflow Automation Explained in 2026

What happens at your company when a deployment fails at 6 a.m., and the engineer who owns that pipeline is asleep? For most teams, the honest answer involves a Slack alert, a scramble, and a manual fix. DevOps workflow automation is the practice of removing that manual dependency by letting scheduled and event-driven triggers handle builds, tests, deployments, and recovery on their own. Below, we break down what it actually involves, why it matters more in 2026 than it did even two years ago, the tools teams use to implement it, and how to roll it out without breaking what already works.
